Trawler owner choose money over life as decomposed remains wash ashore

FEARED DEAD: Afraz Husain
A West Coast Demerara (WCD) family is in a state of despair after the badly decomposed body suspected to be that of 34-year-old Afraz Husain called ‘Buck man’ was found on the Cornelia Ida, WCD foreshore on Saturday.
Husain, a fisherman, left his home at Metem-Meer- Zorg West on Monday (April 12, 2021) to go on a trip at sea and is slated to return on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
But police discovered the body on Saturday morning and according to the man’s father Abid Husain, he received a phone call that it was his son.
The man said he can only identify his son from two tattoos on his forearms but the state of decomposition has made it difficult to do so.
“The body decomposed, the tattoo on the skin peeled off. He has a tattoo on one hand with his name and on the other hand with his wife name,” he explained in an interview with the BIG Smith News Watch on Sunday at their home.
The family is growing uneasy by the hour since the owner of the boat identified as Richard has confirmed that Afraz and four others departed for work on Monday last but is not making any effort to contact the crew.
In fact, the fisherman’s wife, Bibi Shazeena Jaggernath said when she contacted Richard on Sunday, she was verbally abused and told not to call him again.
“He cuss me up. Up to just now me call and ask he the story, he cuss me up,” Jaggernath said.
Unable to wait until Thursday when the boat gets back to find out if her husband is alive or dead, the woman is pleading for Coast Guards to find the remainder of the crew and make the confirmation.
“Me can’t wait for he trip to done when someone looking like me husband lying in the parlour,” the teary-eyed woman said.
