Suspected Arson Leaves Berbice Woman Homeless

December 14 2025
Samantha Crawford of Salton Village, Corentyne, Berbice is now homeless after a fire destroyed her place of abode on Friday night, in what is suspected to be an act of arson.

Crawford, told reporters that she left her home at about 7:30 p.m. to travel to Red Dragon.
However, approximately one hour into her journey, she received a phone call informing her that her house was on fire.

“When we come, we see the house on fire. The fire was engulfed in the whole house,” Crawford said.
The woman further alleged that the fire may be linked to a horse groom who has lived on the same premises for more than 20 years, during the time her late husband was alive.
She explained that following the death of her husband two years ago, the man reportedly expressed an interest in having a relationship with her—an advance she said she firmly rejected.
According to Crawford, after she denied him, the groom allegedly issued a threat, telling her that she had nine days to vacate the house.
“When my husband passed away, he had the intention that I would have taken him because I lived two years by myself without anybody,” she recounted, describing the man’s remarks.
Now left without a home, Crawford is calling for justice as she attempts to find a way forward after the devastating loss.
