The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m. at Red Road, ‘D’ Field, Sophia.

According to preliminary investigations, police ranks were responding to a report of larceny when they arrested a 35-year-old man from the Cummings Lodge Squatting Area. During the arrest process, the suspect allegedly became aggressive, assaulted a police rank, and attempted to escape from custody.

Police reported that the suspect armed himself with a glass bottle and advanced in a threatening manner towards the ranks. While other force options were reportedly employed, the suspect continued to advance, prompting a police rank to discharge his service weapon.

The suspect sustained an injury to his left foot and was subsequently subdued. He was escorted to the Turkeyen Police Station and later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he received medical treatment and was listed in stable condition.

The incident remains under active investigation, and the Guyana Police Force has indicated that further details will be released as investigations continue.
