Bare Root Residents to Benefit from New Community Centre, Roads and Bridges

December 15 2025
Residents of Bare Root along the East Coast of Demerara are poised to benefit from a series of infrastructural upgrades, including the construction of a community centre, improvements to roads, and the development of bridges.
The announcement was made on Friday by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand, during a community engagement where residents raised several concerns affecting the area.
The minister disclosed that efforts are currently underway to regularise land to facilitate the construction of a community centre. She also committed to replacing a community sign that recognises a young female achiever from the community.
Additionally, Minister Manickchand indicated that discussions will be held with Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, regarding the construction of a bridge previously promised to residents. She explained that while some projects may take time to commence due to administrative and procedural requirements, residents can expect cleaning initiatives and other works to begin in the near future.
Reflecting on past interventions by the previous PPP/C administration, the minister recalled the process involved in extending electricity and water services to the community. She noted that these efforts required coordination with Guyana Power and Light and Guyana Water Inc., as well as flexible payment arrangements that allowed households to pay connection costs in instalments.
Minister Manickchand reaffirmed the government’s commitment to serving residents and addressing community needs, noting that ongoing work continues even when progress is not immediately visible.
Similar community-focused initiatives are being implemented nationwide as part of the government’s broader effort to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for all Guyanese.
