Earlier today, five individuals sustained minor injuries after a section of the wharf collapsed behind the bustling Stabroek Market in Georgetown.

The incident prompted an immediate response from emergency services, with injured individuals currently receiving medical attention at nearby hospitals.

Reports indicate that the collapsed area was utilized by a few fish vendors, and there were unknown individuals believed to have been living in the affected section.

In the aftermath of the incident, efforts are underway to clear the rubble and debris from the affected area. Authorities have deployed resources to assess the extent of the damage and ensure the safety of bystanders and nearby residents.

The collapse has led to disruption in the vicinity, with authorities working diligently to restore normalcy and address any potential hazards.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali, accompanied by Minister of Local Government Sonia Parag, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar, Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn, Leader of the Opposition Aubrey Norton, and various other government officials, were present at the scene to offer updates and provide assistance as needed.

Further updates on the situation will be provided as the investigation progresses.
