85-year-old woman found murdered in home

MURDERED: 85-year-old Bibi Nasmonisha Ramjit
Bibi Nasmonisha Ramjit of 63 La Grange Old Road, West Bank Demerara, was found murdered in her home on Sunday by neighbours who, after several hours, realised that she was not visible as usual.
One relative who spoke with this publication indicated that relatives last saw the woman on Saturday, but neighbours did see her on Sunday less than two hours before she was found bound and gagged in her ransacked home just after 15:00hrs.
Ramjit has six children, but lived alone as her children are overseas. Relatives said that friends and family who are based here had taken a decision not to pay the woman many visits because of her age, and wanting to make sure that she was not exposed to the coronavirus.
They explained that earlier this year the woman suffered losses on two occasions when someone invaded her house, but she never reported the matter as according to her, she had no suspects, and did not have the evidence to prove to the police that indeed stuff was stolen from her. But on both of those occasions, money was taken from her room, we were told.
One of the last persons to have seen her alive, according to what this publication was told late Sunday night, was a handyman who worked for the woman.
Sometime yesterday, a child went calling at Ramjit’s home and got no answer, and he raced home and alerted his mother that Aunty Bibi, as she was fondly called, was not answering him.
Being aware that Ramjit was earlier downstairs in her yard doing some chores, three residents decided to go over, as they thought that she might have blacked out from the sun in which she was working.
When they checked the yard she was not there and when they ventured upstairs, the doors except the front one, was open and the house ransacked. They then found her inside a room gagged and bound. One resident attempted to remove the cloth from her mouth to see if she was still breathing, but she was not.
The police were called in, and investigations launched.
