Soup Vendor Granted Bail for Armed Robbery

January 9 2025 – Peter Thompson, a 22-year-old soup vendor, was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 on
Wednesday after appearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on an armed robbery
charge.
Thompson had been remanded in custody since November 2024 following his arrest in
connection with an armed robbery that involved over $3.4 million in stolen items.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is represented by attorney Nigel Hughes.
The robbery in question occurred on November 12, 2024, at a salon on D’Urban Street, Lodge,
Georgetown, where Adelle David was the victim.
Thompson, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, is said to have carried out the robbery
with the assistance of accomplices.
The stolen items consisted of six gold rings valued at $632,500, two gold chains worth
$870,000, a gold ankle chain priced at $150,000, a gold wristband valued at $570,000, a
handbag worth $2,990, and $1.19 million in cash.
In his bail petition, Hughes requested that his client be granted reasonable bail, emphasising
the lack of evidence connecting Thompson to the crime.
The prosecutor firmly opposed the granting of bail, highlighting the victim’s identification of
Thompson, video evidence depicting him committing the crime, and the serious nature and
frequent occurrence of the offence.
Magistrate Mc Gusty highlighted the gravity of the charges but pointed out that the video
evidence presented by the prosecution was insufficient to conclusively identify Thompson.
She denied the prosecution’s request for Thompson to surrender his passport as a condition of
bail, but granted him bail in the amount of $250,000, along with reporting conditions.
He was ordered to report regularly to the police pending the hearing and determination of his
trial. Thompson is set to return to court on February 5th, 2025, as the case progresses.
