Seven political parties have officially entered the race for Guyana’s upcoming General and Regional Elections, following the successful submission of their Lists of Candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Nomination Day, held today at the Umana Yana in Georgetown.

The submissions now signal the formal start of the 2025 election campaign season, with national polls scheduled for September 1, 2025.

The parties contesting the elections are:

  • A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) – led by Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton

  • People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) – led by incumbent President Dr Irfaan Ali

  • Alliance For Change (AFC) – led by attorney Nigel Hughes

  • Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) – led by former minister Simona Broomes

  • Forward Guyana Movement – led by Amanza Walton-Desir

  • We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) – led by businessman Azruddin Mohammed

  • Horizon and Star Party – led by Hubert Maloney, who is listed as the party’s sole candidate

With the submission of their candidate lists, each party is now cleared to campaign ahead of the September elections, where voters will elect representatives at both the national and regional levels.
