Partially vaccinated Guyanese granted entry to Guyana upto Nov. 30

The Ministry of Health has granted exemptions to Guyanese who have not yet received their second doses of vaccines to enter Guyana until November 30. This move follows several concerns raised by citizens that their relatives are not being allowed to travel home since the Government implemented its full vaccination requirement from November 01.

By virtue of its gazetted order of emergency COVID-19 measures for this month, the Government has mandated that only “fully vaccinated persons will have access to public places or allowed to enter the country. As a result, several Guyanese have reported that their families are stuck overseas since they have not yet received their second jabs. Notably some of these persons are travelling from the United States of America and would have received their first dose of the Sputnik Vaccine before departure but this vaccine is neither available nor accepted in the US as of this month.

In a document prepared by Chief Medical Officer DR. Narine Singh titled ‘requirements for port entry into Guyana’ released on Friday, it was stated that “partially vaccinated Guyanese who departed Guyana on or before October 31, 2021 and will return to Guyana on or before November 30, 2021.”

Exemptions are also granted to passengers who are advised against being vaccinated for medical reasons but they must present a “Letter of Exemption” from a licensed medical practitioner.

All other passengers above 12-years old travelling to Guyana, are required to present proof of full vaccination, a Negative SARS-CoV-2 Antigen test not older than 72 hours or a negative SARs-Cov-2 PCR test not older than 72 hours.

Children under two years old do not require an Antigen or PCR test.
