Residents of the Friendship community on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) will have a brighter holiday season thanks to the generosity of Nexus Machine-Tech Guyana Inc.

The company on Thursday prepared and distributed hampers and gifts to the residents and children of the Friendship community, where its main office is located.

Close to $500,000 dollars in hampers containing foodstuff, hygiene and sanitation products were distributed while the children of the community were presented with toys and books.

Director of Nexus Machine-Tech Guyana Inc., Haniff Mohamed was on the ground to provide assistance to his team in the distribution of the items. He also took the time to interact with the residents of the community to understand their developmental needs.

“I feel like friendship is my home away from home and the residents here have always been very receptive of what we do here. In addition, we know the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt far and wide throughout Guyana, and its ripple effects coming into this Christmas season meant that a lot of persons were not in the best of positions; it was with that in mind that we tried to reach as much of the community as possible,” he said.

Mohamed noted that the company has done similar activities in the past but it this year decided to give back to the nearby residents. “Charity is not something that is new to the company, for years we have been donating to orphanages across the country but this year, we decided that the residents of this community, were the best people to give back to,” the Director said.

To cater for elderly persons in the community, the company delivered the items to their homes.

The Director thanked his staff for their dedication and hard work to prepare the items. “I have to say thanks to my hardworking team here who managed to put all this together for the residents, they are the people that should be getting the thanks here because they were the ones on the ground getting the items and packing and everything. They made this happen in about two or three days,” he noted.

In receiving the items, the residents expressed their delight at the support of the company, especially given the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The children were also delighted to have received toys.

Nexus has been existence for more than 20 years, providing machining and fabrication services to the industries including the extractive, marine sectors. According to Mohamed, when the company was established a few buildings down from their current location, their aim was to provide tangible support to the various sectors.

However, with the realization and subsequent development of the Oil and Gas sector, the company expanded its services to the now Lot 40 Public Road, Friendship, East Bank Demerara, office which opened late last year.

Among the services that the American Petroleum Institute (API) Q1 certified office and workshop offers include Drill Pipe Inspections, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining, Drilling and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), Powder Coating of high heat metals as well as other related services.
