A horrific accident on Thursday along the Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara, has left 45-year-old Jomo Peters of Haslington New Scheme dead after his motorcycle collided with two cars in the vicinity of Pump Road Liliendaal along the Rupert Craig Highway.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene after Peters, who was reportedly riding at a fast rate without a safety helmet, attempted to overtake a line of traffic during the “third lane” operation.
According to a police report, in the process, the left handlebar of his motorcycle struck the front of a westbound car, PYY 4296, causing him to lose control and smash into another vehicle, PAE 9879, moments later.
The impact was devastating — Peters was hurled through the air and landed violently on the median, suffering severe head and body injuries. Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash left debris scattered across the roadway as stunned onlookers gathered nearby.
Peters’ body was later removed and taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Both female drivers involved in the accident were unharmed and later tested negative for alcohol. Investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing.
