A fuel tanker owned by Guyanese businessman Sewsankar of De Willem burst into flames earlier Saturday afternoon while in the Demerara River at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

Those killed have been identified as Seenarine Persaud, Mark Mangal and Damon Denia.

According to information reaching BIG Smith News Watch, the explosion took place sometime between 14:30 and 15:30 hours.

The vessel ‘Canada Club’ was staffed with several persons and we were informed that three Guyanese adult males died as a result of the explosion.

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn confirmed the incident and disclosed that a multi-agency probe has been launched.

The origin of the fire that led to the explosion is yet to be determined, the Home Affairs Minister noted as he commended the Guyana Fire Service who responded to the distress call with a tender by road and their marine fire fighter.
