Motorcyclist perishes in Corentyne fatal accident

Police are investigating a fatal road accident that occurred at about 13:00 hrs on Monday, February 16, 2026, along the Number 64 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
The incident involved motor car PKK 5792, driven by a 60-year-old man of Number 64 Village, Corentyne, and an unregistered motorcycle ridden by 21-year-old Jagdeo Bhimsingh, an overseas-based Guyanese of Number 63 Village, Corentyne.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bhimsingh was travelling south along the eastern drive lane at an alleged high rate of speed. Police stated that he was reportedly unlicensed and not wearing a safety helmet at the time. The motor car was proceeding along the western drive lane when its driver allegedly turned east into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision.
Following the impact, the motorcyclist was thrown onto the eastern grass parapet and sustained severe injuries. He was found unconscious and was transported by public-spirited citizens to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
A breathalyzer test administered to the motor car driver recorded readings of 7 and 8 micrograms respectively. The driver is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
