Freed murder accused arrested in ‘drugs over prison wall’ probe

41-Year-Old Ray Yookum of 58 Lime Street Werk En Rust, Georgetown was on Sunday night chased down and arrested by the police after he and another man were in the vicinity of Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara.

Yookum when questioned by the police indicated that he was in the area where he went to drop off someone. he told detectives that he was with his girlfriend when he received a call from a prisoner asking him to drop the friend off at the Lusignan Prison. Ray Yookum was in July of this year released from jail along with two others who were on remand for the 2012 murder of a D’Urban Street Businessman who they were accused of killing during a robbery.
Police sources said Yookum and his accomplice were intercepted but the accomplice managed to escape. The interception was done by ranks from the Police Tactical Services Unit and members of the Guyana Defence Force.
1255 grams of marijuana leaves, seeds, and stems four cartons of cigarettes, and 40 grams of cocaine were discovered at the location in a black plastic bag.
Yookum, up to press time had not provided the name of the other man who was with him at the time ranks intercepted them. The police investigations are ongoing.
