MoA Refutes Corruption Claims at Charity Pump Station Project

April 24 2025- The Ministry of Agriculture has issued a statement following claims of corruption around the Charity Pump Station Project.
See full statement below:
“The Ministry of Agriculture wishes to categorically address the recent misleading claims being circulated regarding the Charity Pump Station project in Region 2.
Contrary to the uninformed and politically charged statements made by Opposition M.P., Hon. Ganesh Mahipaul, there is no evidence of corruption but rather engineering challenges that are swiftly being addressed.
During a recent sitting of Parliament, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture made it clear that the original scope of the project had to be changed due to significant erosion along the sea dam. When these questions were raised by Hon. Vinceroy H. Jordan, M.P., Minister Mustapha gave a detailed response, to which M.P. Mahipaul responded by saying, “Thank you very much, Hon. Minister, for that update with regard to the Charity Pump Station.”
Despite previous revetment efforts, extensive soil movement continues to undermine the structural integrity of the site. Further testing at the site was conducted by officials from the Sea Defence Authority and the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA). The findings will thereafter specify the necessary amendments to the initial project design and how it should be adjusted to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability.
As mentioned before, the contractor was instructed to halt operations until the scope of work and the way forward are finalized by the technical teams. Citizens, especially those set to benefit from the pump station, can rest assured that every step taken is to ensure the long-term success of this critical infrastructure.
The Ministry of Agriculture remains focused on delivering quality, resilient infrastructure to protect our people and their livelihoods. We will provide further updates once the revised specifications are complete, and work is set to resume.”
