Mentally Ill Man Found Dead at Cove & John

December 17 2024 – Police have confirmed the discovery of a now deseased Akeem Bruce, a 26-year-old resident of Haslington ECD who had been previously reported missing.
According to a statement, acting on a tip-off, police ranks discovered a decomposed body at the Cove and John foreshore yesterday afternoon.
The body, identified as Bruce, a labourer from Lot 277 Haslington New Housing Scheme, was found lodged among mangrove trees, held in place by strong tides.
Bruce’s body, described as that of a male of African descent, approximately 6 feet tall, was clothed in a blue jersey and green three-quarter pants. Police retrieved the remains around 17:20 hrs and brought it ashore.
Monique James, Bruce’s aunt, identified the body. Bruce had been reported missing by his sister at the Enmore Police Station on December 14, 2024. According to the report, he was last seen leaving home at 16:00 hrs on December 13 and was known to be a patient of the Psychiatric Clinic at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Detectives examined the body and found no visible marks of violence. The remains were transported to the Dr. C.C. Nicholson Hospital in Haslington, where Dr. Baksh pronounced Bruce dead on arrival. The body was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary for storage, pending a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
