Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces President David Granger has called for a thorough investigation to be done into the death of police constable Winston Cooper who died this morning, weeks after he was found unconscious on the roadway.

Cooper was attached to the Presidential Guard of the Guyana Police Force and was among those responsible for the protection of the president and other members of the First Family.

The President on Wednesday shortly after receiving news of the policeman’s death, paid a visit to his mother 761 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown home.

There the president sympathized with her and other relatives as he called for an investigation into the death, according to a post from the Ministry of the Presidency’s FaceBook Page.

The Guyana Police Force had promised to provide additional information and investigate the matter moments after the cop was found on the roadway but after that initial press statement back on July 01, 2019, the force has remained silent on the matter.

BIG Smith Crime Watch was told that the cop shared a relationship with a young woman and at some point before he was found unconscious, he was approached by the young woman and her boyfriend and threats were made to him by the two.

That information was reportedly passed onto the police after the cop was found on the roadway but it is unclear if any police work was done in that regard and in any arrest was made.
