An eight-year prison term was on Wednesday imposed on a 30-year-old father of one who admitted guilt in the killing of an elderly taxi driver.

Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall passed the custodial sentence on Roopchan Taylor of Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) when he appeared before her at the Demerara High Court.

The confessed killer was represented by Attorney-at-Law Teriq Mohammed.

State Counsel Praneeta Seeraj presented the case for the prosecution.

The Judge gave Taylor credit for time served.

Aaron Damdar, 66, a taxi driver of Mes Delices, Canal No. 1, West Bank Demerara, was struck in the face by Taylor on October 20, 2019, near Ogle Sideline Dam, ECD.

According to reports, the two got into a fight after Taylor went to rescue his mother who was attacked by Damdar after she boarded his taxi.

Damdar, a father of three, was hospitalised after the incident but passed away a few days later.
