Berbice Man Awaits Sentencing After Pleading Guilty to Fatal Canje Attack
Sentencing has been postponed for Trevor Rajmangal, a Berbice construction worker, after he admitted responsibility for the death of Mohamed Imran Ali.
Justice Peter Hugh, presiding at the High Court in Berbice, deferred the sentencing and directed that several reports be submitted before the matter resumes at a later date.

The State has been ordered to present a probation report outlining Rajmangal’s background, along with a victim impact statement.
Meanwhile, the defence team must prepare and submit a statement in mitigation on behalf of the accused.
Rajmangal was initially indicted for the capital offence of murder but pleaded not guilty. He later confessed to a lesser charge of manslaughter, which was accepted by State Prosecutor Cicelia Corbin.
The incident dates back to between March 18 and March 19, 2023, at West Canefield, East Canje, Berbice.
During that period, Ali was found lying motionless on Bissessar Street with a visible injury to his eye. Hours earlier, he had reportedly been seen consuming alcohol.
A post-mortem examination gave his cause of death as shock with cerebral haemorrhage due to a fractured skull.s
