Major Development Plans for Kariako Reg. One

Residents of Kariako, a community situated along the Barama River in Region One, received updates today on several government initiatives aimed at improving their quality of life. Housing and Water Minister, Collin Croal, led the engagement, accompanied by a team of regional officials.
Joining Minister Croal were Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Sarah Browne, Regional Chairman Mr. Brentnol Ashley, Vice Chair Ms. Annansha Peters, and Hinterland Services Director Ramchand Jailall. The meeting follows the recent presentation of the 2025 National Budget by Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh.
Minister Croal outlined the new measures introduced in the budget, emphasizing its people-centered approach. He noted that despite Kariako’s remote location, the government remains committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by hinterland communities.
Plans to improve water services, healthcare, education, agriculture, and other essential sectors were highlighted as key components of the development agenda.
“This year’s budget is focused on improving the quality of life for all Guyanese, and we are ensuring that communities like Kariako are not left behind,” Minister Croal stated.
The visit to Kariako is part of a broader outreach in the Moruca Sub-region, where Minister Croal is engaging with residents to discuss their needs and concerns.
In addition to updates on infrastructure and services, the delegation presented a donation of sporting equipment to the community, reinforcing the government’s support for youth development and recreational activities.
Residents expressed appreciation for the updates and the commitment shown by the government to their community.
