September 23, 2025 — The Ministry of Labour has launched an investigation into a workplace accident at Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara, that claimed the life of 28-year-old Dayrovis Martinez Mendoza on Monday.
According to reports, Mendoza, a resident of 15th Street, Foulis, was pinned beneath rubble when a fence measuring about 15 feet in height and 120 feet in length collapsed at the construction site. He died at the scene.
A press statement issued by the Ministry stated that Labour Minister Keoma D. Griffith led a team from the Occupational Safety and Health Department to the site shortly after the incident. Extending condolences on behalf of the government, the Minister assured that the circumstances surrounding the tragedy will be thoroughly examined.
“The Ministry remains committed to safeguarding the lives and well-being of all workers by enforcing occupational safety and health standards and holding employers accountable for non-compliance,” the Ministry said.
