The Ministry of Health on Monday announced two more COVID-19 deaths bringing the overall total to 203. Of that amount, 39 persons have lost their lives this year to the dreaded disease.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry noted that the latest fatalities are two females, a 64-year-old from Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and a 69-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). These persons died while receiving care at a medical facility.

“The MOH expresses sincerest condolences to the families of the two deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed,” the statement added.

The Ministry urges the general public to respect the confidentiality of the two deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

Despite an increase in social and economic activity, the Ministry reminded persons to ensure correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving their homes, maintain six feet physical distance from others and wash/ sanitise hands to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

From January 1, 2021 to date, 2,475 persons have tested positive with COVID-19 taking the overall total to 8,807.

During this same period, there have been 2,994 recoveries.

To date, 70,354 persons have been tested for the disease according to the Ministry.

If anyone is displaying any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19, or need any additional information, kindly contact the COVID-19 Hotline 231-1166, 226-7480 or 624-6674 IMMEDIATELY or visit us at www.health.gov.gy.
