Fire Guts CID Identification Room

October 3, 2024 – A fire broke out at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Compound at Eve Leary, Georgetown, on the evening of October 2, 2024.
A statment from the Guuana Fire Service indicated that the blaze was reported at 6:27 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the fire department.
The affected building, a single-story concrete structure formerly known as the Identification Room, was used as a storage facility and is owned by the Government of Guyana.
While there were no injuries or reports of anyone being left homeless, the building and its contents were significantly damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Police personnel on-site made initial attempts to control the fire before the arrival of the fire crew.
Authorities have confirmed that further updates will be provided as investigations continue into the cause of the fire.
