COMMANDER-DESIGNATE: Former Crime Chief, Senior Superintendent Michael Kingston

Former Crime Chief Michael Kingston, who was instructed to hand over the operations of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Guyana Police Force to Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum two weeks ago, has been removed from the operations of the investigative arm of the force.

Kingston, now back in uniform, will be heading to Region 8 where he will take over command of that region from Ramesh Ashram. Ashram is the Trafic Chief-designate, but has not yet taken up his post.

Kingston spent most of his life in the investigative field and worked in a number of regions and divisions of the force, before being appointed Crime Chief.

While performing the duties of Crime Chief as a Senior Superintendent, he was given a letter of appointment which stated that although being a Senior Superintendent, his scope and responsibility are to be regarded as that of an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Kingston is well known for his work in the then-Police ‘C’ Division as the Divisional Detective Officer. He was subsequently transferred to the police ‘A’ Division, where he again served in that capacity, before being appointed Deputy and then substantive Crime Chief.

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn is reported in another section of the media as having said that there are other changes that are likely to take place within the Guyana Police Force’s command structure.

Over the last three weeks there have been a number of movements within the force, with officers being reassigned and assigned new duties, while some have since returned to their original posts prior to 2018.
