Attempts made to torch Suriname Embassy in Georgetown; Molotov cocktails fail to hit building

The building which houses the Suriname Embassy in Queenstown, Georgetown

The Guyana Police Force Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the tossing of Molotov cocktails at the Suriname Embassy which is located at Anaira and New Garden Streets Queenstown.

BIG Smith News Watch was informed that the incident took place sometime after 01.30 hours on Wednesday morning.

Police sources are tight-lipped on the development. In fact, sources within the police force initially indicated to this publication that the tossing of the items was not at the embassy but rather a few doors down.

During a visit to the location this morning, BIG Smith News Watch was told by embassy employees that the incident did take place there. When we arrived at the scene, two personnel from the embassy were also combing the general area outside of the embassy fence. Evidence of a burnt-out tyre was also present on the scene when we arrived. We were told that some amount of flammable liquid was also poured along sections of the streets surrounding the embassy.

This publication was told that a security guard who was on duty at the location saw two fireball objects coming in the direction of the embassy but fortunately, they fell short of entering the compound of the embassy.

The police were summoned and an investigation immediately commenced. The police also removed two bottles with a suspected flammable liquid and other objects inside. Those items are in the custody of the police detectives at Major Crimes Unit Investigation Unit at the  Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Georgetown.

Over the last few weeks, there have been several fires taking place in and around Georgetown. Facilities operated and or controlled by the army, police, magistrate, and GECOM were among the targeted structures within the last two weeks.
