Eccles man jailed for obtaining money by false pretence

A 41-year-old driver has been sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to obtaining money by false pretence.
David Singh, called “Dave”, of Eccles New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, where the charge was read to him.
Singh, who was arrested on Sunday, July 26, was charged with obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 194 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment.
