6 June 2026 – The excitement is building in Zone 7 (East Berbice/Corentyne) as sixteen secondary schools prepare to compete in the highly anticipated Beharry Schools Cricket Tournament.

Teachers, students, and officials recently gathered for a team briefing ahead of the opening round of competition.

Region 6 Coordinator Mr. Ameer Rahaman welcomed participants and thanked the teachers and students for attending the briefing. He encouraged all teams to compete with discipline, sportsmanship, and pride as they represent their respective schools.

Also addressing the gathering was Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Secretary Mr. Ryan Algu, who expressed gratitude to the Beharry Group for sponsoring such a major tournament. He emphasized that competitions of this nature are critical for the development of youth cricket and provide a platform for identifying emerging talent throughout the region.

BCB Chief Junior Selector Mr. Balram Samaroo informed the gathering that he will be attending matches throughout the tournament as part of efforts to identify promising young cricketers for future representation.

During the briefing, school representatives were given the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns, and offer suggestions.
