Domestic Violence Offender Shot During Scuffle with Police

September 19 2024 – A 32-year-old construction worker, Jermaine Haynes, from Little Diamond Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, is currently hospitalised after being shot by police officers responding to a domestic violence report made by his 33-year-old wife.
The incident occurred after Regional Division 4’B’ Operations Room dispatched two armed police constables to the scene.
The victim, Haynes’ wife, was found seeking refuge at a neighbor’s house, where she informed officers that her husband had slapped her, broken a table in their home, and threatened to kill her, prompting her to flee.
Upon approaching the couple’s residence, Haynes, in a fit of rage, exited the house and attacked the responding officers. During the altercation, Haynes reportedly grabbed one officer’s firearm and managed to disarm him. In response, the second officer discharged two rounds, striking Haynes in the lower right leg.
The suspect was subdued and transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for treatment under police guard. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
