Daughter, Boyfriend Charged with Murder of Jenny Mohamed

June 24 2025
Two individuals have been formally charged with the brutal murder of 46-year-old Jenny Mohamed, whose disappearance earlier this month triggered a major police investigation on the East Coast of Demerara.
Austin Ramchand, a 24-year-old auto electrician, and Saffia Mohamed, a 23-year-old housewife—both of Lot 304 Mon Repos—were arrested on June 16 and appeared in court today, Tuesday, June 24, 2025. They were not required to plead to the charge of murder when they appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court. Both were remanded to prison until August 4, 2025.
The case began as a missing person’s report after Jenny Mohamed, also known as “Baby,” was last seen on the morning of June 10 at her Non Pareil residence. Her husband, Rasheed Mohamed, reported that she had been at home with their daughter and her daughter’s common-law partner when he left for work that day. Jenny was not heard from again.
After relatives raised concerns and noted a history of frequent communication that abruptly stopped, police launched a series of searches. On June 16, investigators discovered bloodstains at Jenny’s home on various surfaces, including a couch, walls, and floors—indicating signs of a possible clean-up attempt. The blood later tested positive as human.
Following further leads, police arrested the daughter and her partner, both of whom initially gave conflicting statements. However, on June 19, under intense questioning, Jenny’s daughter reportedly confessed to the murder, revealing that she and her partner stabbed and strangled the victim with a rope before wrapping her body in a garbage bag and tarpaulin. They then transported and dumped the body in a trench along Eccles New Road on the East Bank of Demerara.
The body, bearing multiple stab wounds and the rope still around the neck, was discovered at the location given by the daughter. Investigators also recovered physical evidence from the residence and the suspects’ vehicle, including strands of hair and blood-stained materials.
The daughter’s confession, along with the boyfriend’s subsequent admission of involvement, confirmed investigators’ suspicions that Jenny Mohamed was murdered inside her home on June 10, 2025.
The case, which began with a missing person alert, has since evolved into a full-scale homicide investigation, with police continuing to compile evidence as legal proceedings advance.
