Four persons who were charged last August for murdering a man whose body was found in a yard with gunshot wounds were on Wednesday committed to stand trial for the capital offence at the High Court in Demerara.

Those charged are: Nicholas Hercules called ‘Bucko’, Brenna Nurse, Devon Harry called ‘Beer’, and Peter Lam.

Following the completion of a Preliminary Inquiry (PI) on Wednesday, Magistrate Roshell Liverpool ruled that sufficient evidence was led against the accused persons to put them on trial before a jury.

Their trial will come up at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Criminal Assizes. The matter was prosecuted by Police Corporal Visram Ramjattan.

Dead: Keon McPherson

The defendants were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on August 15, 2021, at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, they murdered 24-year-old Keon McPherson.

According to reports at around 04:00h on August 15, 2021, McPherson of ‘D’ Field Sophia was found lying motionless in a yard at ‘C’ Field Sophia.

It was reported that a woman telephoned the Police Command Centre and reported that a man was seen lying in a yard with what appeared to be bloodstains on his body.

Police then arrived on the scene and discovered McPherson with a gunshot wound to his left side chest and another on his right hand.

The investigators later found out that McPherson was in a “triangular love affair”. Investigations were conducted and the four persons were arrested and charged.
