An investigation has been launched into a stabbing and shooting incident that occurred at approximately 01:45 hrs on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 111 Miles, Mahdia, in the Potaro-Siparuni Region.

According to police, ranks from the Mahdia Police Station responded to reports of a street disturbance along Mahdia Primary School Street.

Upon arrival, officers encountered several men involved in a violent altercation and instructed them to disperse.

The individuals allegedly ignored the commands and began throwing objects at the police and their vehicle.

During attempts to restore order, a police corporal was reportedly attacked by two men who attempted to disarm him.

One of the suspects was armed with a sharp object. In the ensuing struggle, the officer sustained stab wounds to his lower abdomen and right arm.

The rank subsequently discharged his service weapon, injuring the armed suspect.

The injured suspect, identified as a 22-year-old pork-knocker from Campbelltown Village, Region Eight, and the wounded police officer were transported to the Mahdia District Hospital.

Both were examined by medical staff and admitted in stable condition.

A pair of scissors and two spent 9mm shells were recovered from the scene and have been lodged as evidence. The injured suspect remains under police guard, and no additional arrests have been made at this time.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
