Three men were each sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a vendor during a robbery.

In late May, the trio– Chandrapaul Persaud, 50; Heralall Ramdhan, 61; and Jagishwar Dhanai, 36—were found guilty by a jury of the 2017 murder of Dhanpaul Dookie called Paulie or Short Man.

On Thursday morning at the Demerara High Court, Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry imposed the custodial sentence and ordered that Persaud and Ramdhan must serve 30 years before they are eligible for parole. Dhanai can only be considered for parole after 25 years.

Prior to their incarcerations, the convicted killers lived at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Persaud and Dookie were known to each other. Ramdhan is awaiting trial for attempted murder.

Dookie, 51, was killed sometime between July 24 and 26, 2017.

The coal vendor was murdered in the course or furtherance of a robbery at his home at Uitspa Village, Demerara River.

It was reported that the man was found dead with multiple stab wounds in his home at around 08:00 hours on July 26, 2017.

His cause of death was given as multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.
