CHPA Warns Against Illegal Land Occupation in Linden

September 12, 2024 – Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Mr. Sherwyn Greaves, has issued a stern warning against illegal land occupation in Phase 4 Amelia’s Ward/Fitz Hope, Linden.
During a recent visit to the area, Mr. Greaves addressed a growing issue of squatting and unauthorized construction on residential lots allocated through the agency.
The impromptu visit came in response to reports that individuals have been illegally selling allocated lots and advising buyers to falsely claim long-term occupation since 2017.
Mr. Greaves made it clear that those engaging in such activities could face serious consequences, including the demolition of illegal structures and the rejection of any claims arising from these transactions.
He emphasized that participating in illegal land occupations or transactions could hinder future dealings with the Ministry.
The names of individuals involved in such activities are recorded, and this could prevent them from obtaining residential lots through legitimate channels. He also urged legitimate landowners to stay vigilant and help monitor the area to prevent further illegal activities.
The CEO assured the public that the Ministry is actively working to serve eligible applicants and is seeking additional lands from NICIL and the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission.
He also announced that $80 million has been approved to upgrade the road network in the region, as part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts.
