Brazilian miner charged with murder

A 49-year-old Brazilian gold miner has been charged with murder in connection with the death of another Brazilian miner at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River.
Charged is Doroteia Castilho Maia of Manaus, Brazil, and Rock Creek Backdam. She was charged with the murder of 53-year-old Antonio Pereira Figueredo, also a Brazilian gold miner from Manaus and Rock Creek Backdam.
The charge stems from an incident on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River, where Figueredo was killed.
Maia appeared on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to her.
She was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned until August 31, 2026, for continuation.
