A Nurney Village family is in mourning following the tragic death of 9-year-old Levon Collins, a student of Kildonan Primary School, who allegedly succumbed to injuries inflicted during a confrontation with his 15-year-old female cousin.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 12, while Levon was riding his bicycle to his aunt’s home in Kildonan Village, Corentyne.

Speaking exclusively with BIG SMITH News Watch, his mother, Loretta Collins, said the child was heading up the street when his bicycle chain slipped.

The teenage relative, who was walking behind him at the time, reportedly confronted him.

Loretta recounted that the girl first pushed Levon, prompting him to warn her not to do so. “She hit him and he hit her back,” the grieving mother said. It was then that Levon fell to the ground, and the girl allegedly lifted the bicycle and dealt him a blow to his stomach.

She reportedly continued the beating even after he was down.

Levon later told his mother about the assault, noting that this was not the first time he had been attacked by the teen.

Loretta immediately rushed him to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was treated twice and discharged after being given medication for pain and undergoing an X-ray.

However, on Sunday, November 16, Levon’s condition worsened. Loretta then took the boy to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He was later transferred to the children’s ward after appearing to show signs of improvement.

Sadly, on Saturday, November 22, the young boy began vomiting what appeared to be clotted blood. He died moments later in his mother’s arms.

Loretta expressed her devastation with the loss of her son, whom she described as quiet, loving, and playful. “I feel so sad. I didn’t expect it. He’s not a child that trouble nobody, just quiet, like mek he joke and so,” she said.

Loretta also revealed that she filed a police report the day after the incident. However, she claims no one followed up. “They say is a CID matter. So they say that they will send the CID so that he could investigate the story, and nobody never come,” she stated.

A post-mortem examination is expected to determine the cause of Levon’s death. Based on the outcome of that examination, Loretta is adamant that justice must be served.
