July 15 2026
The body of 14-year-old Daveanand Balram called “Ritesh” and “White Bai” was recovered earlier today, more than a day after he disappeared while swimming in the Corentyne River with friends.
His mother Gayatree Rambhajan, confirmed the discovery.
Balram, of No. 60 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was found at about 7:00 a.m. in the vicinity of the Dukestown Foreshore, Corriverton, after relatives resumed their search earlier that morning.
According to police, family members began searching at about 6:00 a.m. following two days of efforts after the teen’s suspected drowning at the Springlands Foreshore on Sunday, July 13, 2026.
Police said the teen’s body was found face down in a crouched position between several rocks, clad only in boxer shorts, and was in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body was examined at the scene, and police reported that no visible marks of violence were observed.
Earlier, Balram’s mother, Gayatree Rambhajan, had said relatives formed a search party after assistance was limited and eventually located his body before handing it over to police.
Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death.
