Bartica woman granted bail for trafficking narcotics

A 38-year-old Bartica woman has been charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and granted $900,000 bail.
Omaywattie Persaud, a dispatcher of Fifth Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River, was arrested on Sunday, September 13, 2026, and subsequently charged on Wednesday, September 16, under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
Persaud appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Caressa Henry, where the charge was read to her.
She pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $900,000.
The matter was adjourned to October 30, 2026, for continuation.
