A 40-year-old Bartica resident was remanded to prison on Tuesday after being charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused, Asif Bacchus, of Lot 54 Fourth Avenue, Bartica, appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed, where the charge was formally read to him.

Bacchus pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stemmed from his arrest on June 23, 2025, during a police ‘Cordon and Search Operation’ in Bartica. During the operation, officers reportedly discovered 11.6 grams of cocaine in his possession.

Following his court appearance on June 24 at 09:20 hrs, Bacchus was remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned to August 19, 2025, for continuation.
