Approx. 42 kg Marijuana Seized at Haslington

September 20 2025
Police on Friday morning seized more than 41 kilograms of marijuana during an intelligence-led operation at Haslington North, East Coast Demerara.

The exercise, conducted between 07:00 and 07:30 hrs by ranks of Regional Division 4C and the Special Branch, targeted a boat docked along the seawalls. Upon arrival, officers observed a man and a woman of mixed ancestry aboard the vessel. The duo immediately fled into nearby bushes and managed to escape.
A search of the boat — a yellow and red wooden craft named Paraboo (GA 0480/5), powered by a 48-horsepower Yamaha engine — led to the discovery of four large compressed parcels wrapped in transparent plastic. The contents, suspected to be cannabis, were transported to the Cove and John Police Station. Fingerprint analysis proved unsuccessful due to the type of wrapping material.
The parcels were later examined at the Guyana Police Force Narcotics Branch in Georgetown, where they were confirmed to weigh 41.7 kilograms (92.05 pounds), with an estimated street value of GY$37.5 million. Samples were taken, and the bulk of the narcotics was lodged.
Police removed the engine from the vessel for safekeeping, while the boat remains secured at Haslington Seawall under guard.
Investigators have since identified the suspects by their aliases, “Black Boy” and “Lisa,” and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
