Albouystown man found not guilty of killing ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend.

After deliberations on Wednesday, a jury returned a unanimous verdict, finding 25-year-old Nigel Thomas from Albouystown, Georgetown not guilty of the capital offence of murder.
Thomas had been on trial before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Demerara High Court for the December 30, 2019 murder of 23-year-old Kyle Chase, of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Deceased: Kyle Chase
He was initially charged with the crime on January 6, 2020, and was remanded to prison. His trial commenced on May 30, and lasted for four days, according to a statement from the law firm, Dexter Todd and Associates, which was retained by Thomas.
Thomas’s lawyers related that their client was attacked and stabbed by Chase and Chase’s cousin at his then girlfriend’s home. He lost consciousness twice and was unaware of who stabbed the now deceased man or how he got stabbed, the statement added.
He maintained to the court that he did not commit the offence and that he had no intention of causing any harm to Chase.
According to the law firm, there were no witnesses in the matter who could have contradicted their client’s version of events “without a flood of doubt”.
The statement continued, “The witnesses also failed to establish that Thomas had any intention to cause injury to the deceased or that he actually inflicted the wound.”
The case was prosecuted by State counsel Cicelia Corbin, Simran Gajraj, Rbina Christmas and Madana Rampersaud, while Thomas was represented by Attorneys-at-Law Dexter Todd, Jevon Cox and Donette Anthony of Dexter Todd and Associates Law Firm.
According to a report from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the stabbing occurred at Mazaruni Street, Guyhoc Park, Georgetown at around 9.45 pm on December 30, 3019.
The report said Chase was at the home of his girlfriend along with his cousin, Trevon, and they were playing cards.
The Police said that two other men visited the home, including the woman’s former boyfriend, Thomas, who reportedly became enraged upon seeing Chase at her residence.
An argument ensued, which led to a scuffle between Chase and Thomas, who stabbed him several times with an object, Police further said. Chase was pronounced dead on arrival at a private city hospital.
