September 21 2025
Police in Region Nine are investigating the alleged murder of 21-year-old John Elliot, a tourist guide attached to Atta Lodge and resident of Surama Village, North Rupununi. The incident occurred around 01:30 hrs on Sunday, September 21, during Amerindian Heritage celebrations at Annai Village.
Reports indicate that Elliot was stabbed during a confrontation with three male suspects. He later succumbed to his injuries. The suspects have been identified as a 16-year-old school dropout (name withheld), along with 20-year-old Ronaldo Williams and his 18-year-old brother, Orlando Williams, all of Annai Village.
The stabbing was witnessed by a female police rank stationed at the Annai Police Station, who positively identified the 16-year-old as the person who inflicted the fatal wound. Based on her statement, investigators launched an immediate search. The teenage suspect was later arrested at the Williams brothers’ home and placed in custody at the Annai Police Station.
When questioned in the presence of his mother, the 16-year-old denied the allegation, claiming instead that 18-year-old Orlando Williams was responsible for stabbing Elliot.
At 14:00 hrs, the victim’s body was examined at the Annai District Hospital, where doctors observed two stab wounds—one to the left chest and another to the right rib area. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday, September 22.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest Ronaldo and Orlando Williams, who remain at large. Police investigations are continuing.
