CAPTURED: The prime suspect in Dr. Colin Roach’s murder

BY: Michael Jordan

Police have just captured one of the suspects in last Tuesday night’s murder of Dr. Colin Roach.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum revealed that police nabbed the 25-year-old at Springlands, Corentyne, just as he was about to head to Suriname by boat, via the ‘backtrack’ route.

He is from Best Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD), and is reportedly the individual identified as a frequent visitor to Dr. Roach’s office at the International Medical Clinic at lot 111 Duke Street Kingston Georgetown.

His alleged accomplice remains at large.

Police believe that the detainee and accomplice arrived in a rented black car at the clinic at around 5.00 P.M. last Tuesday.

It is believed that after killing Dr. Roach, one of them left with the slain physician’s white Audi Q5 SUV.  The other left in the rented black vehicle in which they had arrived.

The killers reportedly then crossed the Demerara Harbor Bridge as Dr. Roach’s vehicle was recovered on Thursday at Schoonard Road, West Bank Demerara.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum on Friday revealed that the black car, which the killers had used, was recovered on Thursday at the Best Village, WCD residence of the now detained 25-year-old.

Blanhum had earlier expressed confidence that investigators are closing in on the killers.

Dr. Roach was found bludgeoned to death on the floor of his Duke Street, Kingston office at around 22. 20 hrs last Tuesday. He was lying face-up, his trousers were pulled down to his knees, and his covid-19 card was placed neatly on his stomach. His cellphones and his white Audi SUV, PXX 4000 were missing.

Dr. Roach’s two employees have told police that they last saw him alive around 15:00 hrs that day, when he closed his clinic.

The employee who found Dr. Roach’s body said he and his colleague had left the physician in his office. The employee further stated that he retired to his living quarters, located on the top flat of the building while his colleague went out. The employee said that at around 20:00hrs, he saw a man leaving the building. The man allegedly re-entered the clinic about seven minutes later.

Around 22:18hrs, the employee heard Roach’s SUV driving away from in front of the building. He peeped outside, and saw the vehicle heading north.

According to the worker, he later observed that Dr. Roach had apparently forgotten to turn off the lights in his office. He allegedly called his employer, but his cellphone rang out.

He then went into Dr. Roach’s office and found the body.
