Annandale Secondary continued their impressive run in the 2026 Beharry Secondary Schools Under-19 T20 Tournament, brushing aside Covent Garden Secondary by 46 runs in Qualifier 1 at the Queen’s College Ground on Sunday, August 16.

A balanced batting effort followed by a destructive spell from Ruel Dindyal proved the difference as Annandale took another important step towards the tournament final.

Asked to defend 127-6 from their allotted 20 overs, Annandale’s bowlers responded emphatically, dismissing Covent Garden for 81 in 17 overs.

Dindyal was at the heart of the collapse, producing a match-winning spell of 4-15 to earn Man-of-the-Match honours. He received excellent support from Kevin Singh, who captured 3-19, while Akeem Persaud completed a solid all-round outing with 2-19.

Covent Garden struggled to establish any meaningful partnerships during the chase despite Jamele Schultz and Vinesh Kalpoo offering some resistance.

Schultz top-scored with 27, while Kalpoo followed his impressive bowling performance with 24, but their efforts were not enough to prevent Annandale from securing a comfortable victory.

Earlier, Annandale had to recover from a brief stumble with the bat before reaching a competitive total.

Joshua Bollers led the way with 29, while Persaud contributed 27. Sanjay Dindyal provided a valuable unbeaten 24 to help push the innings beyond the 100-run mark and eventually to 127-6.

Covent Garden’s bowlers had periods of success, with Kalpoo returning excellent figures of 2-8 and Shane Khan claiming 2-18, but Annandale managed to weather the pressure and put enough runs on the board.

Their total ultimately proved more than sufficient once Dindyal and company went to work with the ball.

Annandale will now turn their attention to Qualifier 2, where they are scheduled to face Abram Zuil Secondary at the Enterprise Ground on Wednesday, August 19.
