Guyana celebrate overall IGG win in Suriname
Guyana ended a 12-year wait for the overall Inter Guiana Games title by finishing ahead of French Guiana and Suriname in Paramaribo.
The Guyanese delegation accumulated 475 points, compared with French Guiana’s 444 and the hosts’ 431.
Athletics provided the largest contribution to Guyana’s success, while the men’s futsal team also won its discipline. Those performances helped offset weaker results elsewhere, including swimming and basketball.
The victory followed Guyana’s second-place finish in 2025. French Guiana is scheduled to host the next edition in 2027.
