Agriculture Ministry charts bold 2026 growth plan

January 6 2025-
Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, earlier today met with programme heads and senior officers of the Ministry of Agriculture to assess the Ministry’s performance and outline its plan of action for 2026, as the sector continues to build on gains made over the past year.
During the meeting, Minister Mustapha commended staff for their dedication and hard work throughout 2025, noting that the agriculture sector achieved significant progress and once again proved to be a vibrant and productive pillar of Guyana’s economy.
However, the Minister urged officers to further intensify their efforts as the government prepares to roll out additional programmes and initiatives aimed at modernising and expanding the sector. He emphasised that sustained commitment, innovation, and strong coordination will be essential as Guyana works to enhance food security, boost agricultural exports, and position itself as a leading food producer within the region.
Minister Mustapha also highlighted that the Ministry’s 2026 plan of action will prioritise improving efficiency, scaling up production, strengthening resilience to climate-related impacts, and deepening private sector and regional partnerships to support long-term growth.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vikash Ramkissoon; Permanent Secretary, Ms. Daun Ellis; Director General, Mr. Dhaneshwar Deonarine; and other senior technical officers.
