(From L-R Samorea Mitchell called ‘Pastor’, Dead: Delroy McKenzie)

A 26-year-old man who is accused of carrying out a drive-by shooting in Linden in July which resulted in the death of a man, was on Friday, remanded to prison on a murder charge. Samorea Mitchell called ‘Pastor’ of 716 Phase 1 “B” Wisroc, Linden, appeared before at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on July 17, 2021, at Sunflower Street Wismar, Linden, he murdered Delroy McKenzie. The accused who was represented by Attorney-at-law Dexter Todd was remanded to prison until October 8, 2021.

Police Headquarters in a release said that on the day in question at around 17:00 hrs, McKenzie and his friend, Calvin Daly left Georgetown for Linden to visit a female friend. At around 21:00 hrs, they arrived in Linden via public transportation and went to Church’s Chicken to purchase a meal.

Mckenzie was then given directions from his female friend via cellular to join a boat at the last stelling at the McKenzie shore.  On arrival at the Wismar, Region 10 shore, Mckenzie contacted the female via cellular phone and he was told to walk up the road through Sunflower Street.

While walking through the street, Mckenzie received another phone call from the female who told him to turn around since she will be sending a taxi to transport him to her residence.

The men then walked out of the street where the said silver wagon car turned around.

As Mckenzie approached the car to open the back door, two males opened fire on him. Daly ran for cover leaving McKenzie behind. The shooters then jumped back into the car and made off towards Silver City Street, Linden. The injured men were picked up and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where Mckenzie was pronounced dead on arrival.

Daly received two gunshot wounds on the left and right lower arms. He was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he underwent surgery. Following an investigation, Mitchell was arrested and charged.
