Agricola Mason Remanded Over Brutal Armed Robbery

July 4 2025
A 23-year-old man from Agricola, Greater Georgetown, was on Friday remanded to prison after being charged with robbery under arms in connection with a violent cutlass attack that left a man seriously injured.
Brandon Williams, a mason, of Agricola appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

It is alleged that on May 30, while in the company of others and armed with a cutlass, Williams robbed Kewsi Lewis.
The stolen items included an Akunya cellphone valued at $150,000 and $40,000 in cash, amounting to a total of $190,000.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of public safety and the seriousness of the offence.
The court was told that Williams had previously been before the court in 2023 and was remanded to prison. In the present matter, the prosecution said that Williams admitted to chopping the virtual complainant, although there was no video evidence to support the claim.
The prosecution also highlighted that Williams and Lewis reside in close proximity and that the virtual complainant had expressed fear for his life due to ongoing threats.
The court heard that if granted bail, Williams may interfere with the witness or commit further offences.
When asked how the two men knew each other, it was revealed that the accused was known to the complainant from occasional visits to the village, where his girlfriend resides.
In court, Lewis gave a detailed account of the incident, claiming that tensions began after his girlfriend called the police on a woman who is said to be an associate of Williams.
He said that as a result, Williams and another man accused him of bringing the police into the village and warned him to stay away.
He alleged that they threatened to kill him if he returned.
Lewis told the court that on the day of the incident, he went to visit his girlfriend, after which he was heading to visit a friend in the village when the accused and an accomplice, both armed with cutlasses, forced their way into the friend’s home, ransacked the house, and stole his phone and wallet.
When he confronted them, they allegedly attacked him. Lewis said he raised his hand to block a chop aimed at his head by Williams, resulting in a severe injury to his hand.
He was reportedly chopped multiple times about the body before managing to escape.
He further stated that he ran to a nearby yard to hide, wrapped his injured hand in a vest, and later fled to the main road. Despite pleading for help, he said passersby ignored him. Eventually, he saw a police van and rolled into the roadway to get their attention.
Officers picked him up and took him to the hospital, where he was admitted for three days.
Magistrate McGusty denied bail, citing the violent nature of the offence and the need to protect public safety. The matter was adjourned until August 8.
