‘Lilawattie’ Granted $80,000 Bail for Violent Robbery

A 22-year-old man who goes by the alias “Lilawattie” was on Friday granted bail after being charged with robbery with violence in connection with an incident that took place in central Georgetown three months ago.
The accused, Orin Fraser, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate (ag) Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to the indictable charge. Fraser was not required to plead.
The charge alleges that on April 10, at King Street, Georgetown, Fraser robbed Melvin Marks of several items, including a black cellphone valued at $78,000, a black purse worth $5,000, and $15,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen items amounted to $98,000. During the course of the robbery, or immediately before or after it, Fraser is also accused of using personal violence against Marks.
In court, Fraser stated that he is self-employed and resides at Lot 52 Princes and William Streets, Georgetown.
The prosecution, however, strongly objected to bail, citing Fraser’s criminal history.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant is no stranger to the justice system and has previously faced several charges, including for assaulting a police officer.
When questioned by the magistrate about how Fraser and the virtual complainant knew each other, it was revealed that the two were acquainted through Facebook.
Despite the objections raised by the prosecution, Magistrate McGusty granted Fraser bail in the sum of $80,000. The matter has been adjourned to August 8,  for further proceedings.
