The anguished cries of a mother now echo through Bush Lot Village, Corentyne, as 30-year-old truck driver Davendra Sydney lost his life in a tragic accident on Thursday night.
The fatal crash occurred around 23:20 hrs on the Alness Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, involving motor car PWW 6986, owned and driven by a 31-year-old man of John’s Settlement, with Sydney as the lone passenger.

According to initial police investigations, the vehicle was travelling east along the northern drive lane at what was described as a fast rate when the driver reportedly lost control.
The car overturned, causing Sydney to be flung onto the southern grass parapet. The vehicle eventually came to a halt on a nearby bridge.
Both men sustained injuries and were assisted by public-spirited residents who rushed them to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. Sydney, however, was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
The driver, believed to be a coworker of the deceased, was admitted for observation with multiple bruises.
A breathalyzer test administered to the driver produced readings of 77 and 74 micrograms, both exceeding the legal limit.
At the family’s Bush Lot home, grief weighed heavily as Sydney’s mother, Sarogine Thomby, recalled her final moments with her only child.
She said she last saw him around 2 p.m. on the day of the accident. Hours later, she received the devastating news.
“When I reach the hospital, he done gone,” she said through tears, noting that her son suffered severe head injuries. Thomby described him as the pillar of their home, explaining that he was the sole breadwinner, as his father is unable to work due to mobility issues.
“My son was a very good person,” the grieving mother said, her voice breaking. “Nobody can’t talk bad about him. He was so friendly and kind to everybody.”
Police have since launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
