In an effort to build a modern, inclusive and digitally prepared society, the Guyana Digital School at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, marking a significant step in the country’s push to build a modern, inclusive, and digitally prepared society.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag described the launch as a defining moment for Guyana’s education sector, noting that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to delivering accessible learning opportunities for every student.

She reported that 20,368 students from Grades 10 and 11 have already enrolled in the platform, which integrates technology-driven tools, interactive online instruction by trained teachers, an extensive digital library, and AI-supported learning resources.

“This is not an abandonment of traditional schooling, it is the strengthening of it,” Minister Parag said.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who conceptualised the project, described the launch as an important milestone for Guyana and a step forward for regional integration.

President Ali characterized the launch as both an emotional and historic milestone for Guyana and the wider region, highlighting its significance for regional integration.

He emphasized that the digital school offers children opportunities that previous generations could only dream of and provides all Guyanese with access to resources and learning pathways that were previously limited.

The President noted that the initiative goes beyond an educational achievement, serving as a critical tool for breaking down long-standing barriers that once restricted access to quality education.

He framed the platform as part of a broader national and economic transformation strategy, underscoring the importance of digital infrastructure in bridging the gap faced by developing nations and ensuring that citizens actively shape, rather than simply experience, the future.

The event, co-hosted with an AI assistant, featured live demonstrations showcasing the institution’s capabilities as a fully online secondary school.

The platform is expected to expand to additional grade levels as it develops. Designed for learners of any age, the Digital School allows students to access classes from anywhere and is already available to several CARICOM countries, including Belize, The Bahamas and Barbados. Hinterland schools also participated virtually in the launch.
